How we build, and what we build on

Technology is a tool, not the destination. We choose ours for how long it will keep working — and we are not precious about it: the right stack is the one that fits your business, your people and your obligations.

Microsoft-first, cloud-first

Where a client has no established preference, we build on Microsoft: Azure for the cloud, .NET for the software. That is not loyalty. It is a platform with enterprise support behind it, a long and predictable life ahead of it, and a wide market of people who can work on it after us — and that last point matters more than any feature, because a system nobody else can maintain is a liability however well it is built.

Cloud-first for the same reason: capacity you can change your mind about, and a recovery plan that has been tested rather than assumed.

Where a client already runs something else, we work in what they have. Replacing a working platform to suit a supplier is a cost, not a strategy.

Artificial intelligence

We build artificial intelligence into products where it earns its place — extracting meaning from documents and data, supporting decisions, forecasting, assistants that remove real work rather than demonstrate a capability. We are equally willing to tell you when a problem does not need it, which is more often than the market suggests.

What we will not build is a system where nobody is accountable for what it decides. Where a model affects someone materially, a person stays answerable and the reasoning is recorded — because that is what an auditor, a regulator or a customer eventually asks for.

Blockchain and distributed ledger

Where several organisations need to agree on a record none of them controls — provenance, chain of custody, settlement between parties that do not fully trust each other — a distributed ledger solves a genuine problem, and we build on it. Where one organisation owns the data, a database does the same job for less money and less risk. Part of the work is telling you which of the two you actually have.

How we ship

Every change is reviewed, tested and released through the same gate — there is no faster path for urgent work, because that is the path that breaks things.

Your infrastructure exists as a written definition rather than as something assembled by hand over years. That is what keeps your options open: opening a second region, doubling capacity for a season, standing an environment up for a trial, moving the whole thing elsewhere, or bringing it in-house. Each becomes a decision you can cost and schedule, instead of a project nobody wants to start. Systems assembled by hand quietly remove those choices — and you tend to find out at the moment you need one.

The version that was approved is the version that runs. What all of it buys you is unremarkable releases, and a system someone other than us could pick up and carry.

How we work with intelligent tools

The same judgment applies to our own practice. Every colleague works alongside their own intelligent agent, which carries volume, consistency and the patient repetitive work — under principles we do not bend: reliability, transparency, responsibility. Anything that matters is decided by a person, who is accountable for it. That is how the speed arrives without anyone inheriting unreviewed work.

If you are weighing one of these decisions, we are glad to be the second opinion before you commit to the first.
